The Story Behind the Spoonful of Chef Ron Ben Israel
When asked what the ingredients used in his Spoonful mean to him, pastry genius Ron Ben-Israel replied, "Sugar, butter and flour—what else is there?" What else, indeed!
Ben-Israel selected this scoop for his Spoonful from one of the sugar bins in his loft bakery. "It's like a cocoon. I wish I had an armchair in that shape." Known nationwide for his enchanting cakes thanks to his star turns on Food Network’s Cake Wars and Sweet Genius, Ben-Israel stayed true to form with this miniature two-tiered confection. Cradled in the sugar scoop, it bears the branch of a flowering tree with additional handmade flowers scattered across the plate. "I live for making and sharing food," Ben-Israel says.
