The London setup

A base in South Hampstead, a shoot wherever the brief needs one.

The South Hampstead studio is the UK base for planning, pre-production, and post. Shoot days run where the food is: on location in the restaurant, bar, or hotel, or in a rental studio booked to the job. London has deep studio stock, so the room gets chosen for the brief instead of the brief being squeezed into one fixed room. Every space is booked to the same standard, so tethered capture, a styling and prep area, and a client review setup come with the day whichever room it lands in.

NW6 sits close to Central London agencies and to the transport links out to the rest of the country, which is why it works as a planning base for United Kingdom, European, and Middle East production. Full studio details are on the London studio page, and the wider portfolio sits on food photography.

How the work gets made

One production, built to run across the year.

A shoot day, planned to the plate and delivered as a set you can run across every channel. Studio hire, crew, and travel are costed in the estimate, not added later.

01

Pre-production

Shot list, styling, props, and the location locked from the South Hampstead base. If a rental studio is the right call, it is booked and costed before the day.

02

Production

Shot on location in your venue or in the booked studio. Stills and motion captured in the same set, on the same day.

03

Hybrid extension

Real frames extended with AI for new formats, seasons, and variations, so one shoot covers months of content without booking a reshoot.

04

Delivery

Hero frames, supporting angles, negative-space crops, and motion loops, retouched in London and sized for every channel.

What a shoot day covers

  • 01Call time, set build, and lighting
  • 02Food styling and tabletop direction, run on set by Brent
  • 03A hero frame for every dish on the list
  • 04Supporting angles: detail, texture, hands, and the room in context
  • 05Motion: pours, steam, and cinemagraphs, captured alongside the stills
  • 06Live review at the monitor, so selects are approved before the day ends
  • 07A retouch brief and delivery timeline before you leave the set

Common food photography questions

Hiring a food photographer in London.

Who is Brent Herrig?
Brent Herrig is a commercial food and drink photographer and director with a studio base in South Hampstead, London, and a second base in New York. He works with restaurants, hospitality groups, spirits houses, and agencies on stills and motion across the UK and Europe.
Where is the London studio?
South Hampstead, NW6, in north west London. It is the UK base for planning, pre-production, and post, and it sits close to Central London agencies and the transport links out to the rest of the country. The full address goes out with the booking.
Where do London food shoots actually happen?
On location in your restaurant, bar, or hotel, or in a rental studio booked to the brief. London has deep studio stock, so the space is chosen for the job rather than the job being squeezed into one fixed room. Every space is booked to the same standard: tethered capture, a styling and prep area, and a client review setup. The South Hampstead base handles the planning and the post around it.
Do you work outside London?
Yes. London is the base for United Kingdom, European, and Middle East production. Recent assignments include Copenhagen, Alba in Piedmont, Iceland, and Paris. Travel and logistics are quoted with the shoot, never added afterwards.
What European work have you shot?
Chef portraits at Restaurant Alouette and Kong Hans Kælder in Copenhagen, at Ristorante Piazza Duomo in Alba, and Gunnar Karl Gíslason in Iceland, plus editorial assignments in Paris. In London, Michelin-starred chef Éric Chavot was photographed for the Spoonfuls series.
What does it cost to hire a food photographer in London?
Every project is quoted to its brief. Shoot days, the number of dishes, usage rights, studio hire, and whether motion is included all move the number. Share the brief and you will get a clear estimate before anything is booked.
How do usage rights work?
Usage is scoped to the brief. Media, territory, and term are set in the estimate before the shoot, so you own exactly the licence you pay for. Buyouts and extensions are priced up front, never as a surprise renewal.
Can one shoot produce both stills and motion?
Yes. Pours, steam, and cinemagraphs are captured the same day as the stills, from the same set, so the campaign moves and sits still from a single production.
