Milton Abel II’s Spoonful Story

In his spoonful, renowned Pastry Chef Milton Addison Abel II chose to elevate a childhood favorite his father always made: Oreo pudding pie. “Dad loved making pudding pie and I loved eating it. It was simple, made from the Jello pudding box, pre-bought Oreo cookie crust, and Cool Whip topping. When I make this dessert, it’s a great way to remember him.”

Not only are the ingredients Abel chose of particular personal significance, so is the spoon. “It was given to me by Thomas Keller to commemorate the team at The French Laundry earning 3 Michelin stars in 2006. This was the first year Michelin had come to California and the second guide released in the USA. This was a special time in my career. I can’t put into words what it was to be a part of that team at that time.”

Abel’s career has taken him all over the USA and to Europe, and “has totally changed the outcome of my life”. Today you can find him whipping up pastries at his own bakery and coffee roastery in Copenhagen, Denmark.
