Mercedes O’Brien – Garnish Cocktails
$125.00 – $1,300.00
Mercedes O’Brien’s Spoonful Story
If you’re looking for Mercedes O’Brien’s bar spoon, look no further than the bar cart at Gunshow, one of Atlanta’s premier restaurants. In this dim-sum meets Brazilian churrascaria style eatery, carts deliver not only food but also fantastic cocktails right to diners’ tables. “It was my first purchase upon starting the bar program at Gunshow five years ago and is still with me today. Its design allows for fluid movement on the cocktail cart, while the length allows me to keep working when moving out of the way of oncoming guest traffic out on the dining room floor,” O’Brien states.
Self-described as constantly curious, O’Brien creates food-driven cocktails. In plating her spoon, she wished to incorporate a variety of spices and flavors, noting “Food is my learning tool and source of inspiration. I have an endless supply of ingredients to create with.”
Ingredients: Hibiscus and ginger ice cubes, local pollen, brûléed cinnamon, star anise, nutmeg, cloves, lavender, Angostura bitters, borage flowers and ice.
What are the “Spoonfuls of Inspiration”
Among chefs there is one universal truth: each has a favorite spoon. Whether wooden, metal, porcelain, plastic, or bone, chefs use this indispensable tool to measure, stir, flip, fold, divide, carry, plate, and – most importantly – to taste. Most chefs will tell you that their favorite spoon is an extension of themselves, an appendage without which they would be hard-pressed to survive.
Brent Herrig’s Spoonfuls of Inspiration series captures the unique emotional connection between chef and spoon. Created in collaboration with the chef, these abstract portraits showcase their favorite spoon alongside the ingredients and elements that inspire them. Here you’ll find a selection of Spoonfuls of Inspiration representing chefs, bartenders, and baristas from around the globe.
